We are working on some member's stories for you to read. Here's something from your forum secretary, Natalie...
I am Mum to 2 boys and live in Nuneaton.
My youngest, now 13, goes to Oakwood Special School. He has a rare genetic disorder and has severe and complex needs including developmental delay, Autism, a number of health issues, challenging behaviour and sleep disturbance.
I was a primary school teacher with interests in music and special educational needs. Though these days I help out in my local infants school when I can and have been actively involved with the parent carer forum for a number of years.
I have been though difficult times, however I would say that I am a positive and forward thinking person and living with a child with additional needs has encoruaged me to think outside the box. I would like to see other parents supported when times are hard. My son has had many opportunities through school and IDS services. I would like to see this continue for him and other families. I hope that all our children have the chance of the best possible starts in life and are able to maximise their potential.
...more to come and some pictures too!
